Learning How to Build Roblox Games and Experiences

My journey into better understanding the Metaverse and learning what it takes to build there has unexpectedly led me to Roblox!

I’m familiar with Roblox, but had never bothered to really understand it. Exploration into other metaverse platforms had me considering Sandbox and Decentraland. Aiming for the most popular and lowest barrier to entry, I landed on Roblox to start my journey.

I’m extremely impressed by the Roblox Developer Community and Career Center! I also signed up to join the beta of CodeCombat, where you learn to build by playing. I’ll be sure to share more about each of these as I explore, so be sure to subscribe for updates!

Careers at Roblox

Check out this video to learn more about their Career Center! If you’re looking to build your career in technology, and are interested in creating content for the Metaverse, they seem to have everything you need to get started. That’s right kids, you could get a job at the same place you play games!

My First Experiences on Roblox

I have so much to learn, but I was able to use Roblox Studio to build and publish my first experiences on Roblox in very little time. Soon, I’ll be learning how to incorporate Blender for modeling and program features with Lua. Till then, I’m enjoying just exploring what’s possible while I play.

Concert Demo

The Concert template is my favorite so far! I had so much fun I had to make this video:

City Demo

This experience uses the base city template, where I tossed in a couple of awesome high performance cars from the community created assets for you to find and race around in.

Sadly, all I could do with the race cars on mobile was take this killer shot. 😅

The cars that came in the template worked great though. This blew my mind and gave me an idea for my own game!

Race Demo 1

I love racing games! Since Roblox Studio had a template for racing, I had to check it out.

I added one of the race cars I used in the City Demo and it couldn’t handle the terrain, which was funny. I’m sure I’ll add some random vehicles to try out for fun.

With what little I have learned so far, I’m ecstatic to have been able to publish experiences that I can learn and play in. I’m just bummed that Roblox Studio isn’t available on mobile (yet).

Roblox Value Proposition

Reading their Platform Overview and learning about their unique value proposition is what impressed me most.

Our platform provides you with unparalleled opportunities to create content like simple avatar accessories to immersive 3D experiences. Building successful experiences takes time and effort. But there is low risk and no additional cost to building on Roblox, and we provide the tools, services, and support to help you build the most immersive experiences.

They give you everything you need to start creating for free. Their tools let you rapidly iterate and test your experiences. Plus, you have instant global access to a large audience. They even help you understand how you can earn on Roblox!

This is essentially the whole point in me starting this blog! TECH-MULTIVERSE is where I always planned to track the projects that help me learn about and gain experience in the Metaverse, 3D game development, and whatever else the future brings. I just never expected Roblox to play such a big role in that. I’m excited that I’m having a lot of fun with the decent progress I’ve made so far, and looking forward to learning more!
