How to Make AI Videos for YouTube with Google Labs

I’ve spent a fair amount of time trying to learn how to make quality AI videos. My initial exploration started locally, but waiting an hour to see if you got anything worthwhile just isn’t practical!

So, rather than spend thousands of dollars on a GPU with enough umph to make videos in 10 minutes, I decided to sign up for Google’s AI Pro account where it only takes about 2 minutes tops!

For $19.99 per month you’ll get around 130 video generations, depending on your settings. You also get a ton of image generations, which I’ve been using for free long before signing up for pro! I’m starting to lose interest in running models locally because Google makes it way too easy!

However, that doesn’t necessarily make the process of generating videos to tell a story any easier! Getting AI to give you want you want in images and videos is still tricky.

At least with Google Labs tools, like Whisk and Flow, you can iterate much faster and occasionally up with gold – if you’re willing to work at it.

Being annoyed with how everyone else makes it seem so easy, I decided to tell you like it is in my latest video.

Officially my best thumbnail yet! 😎

Here are the two project focused videos I refer to in the above “how to” video:

Animation

This is my first AI story, made using Google Labs Whisk, which I used to explore making an animated video that had consistent character styling. That was not easy, but I’m proud of where I landed after only 20 video generations!

I also generated my own sound effects locally using Stable Diffusion Audio in ComfyUI. It takes less than a minute with 8GB of VRAM.

Finally, this was also my first video where I made my own background music using Waveform, Native Instruments, and my new midi controller! I’ll be sharing how learning all that went soon.

Cinematic

I had no idea what story I was going to tell to test a cinematic feel, so I thought I’d aim for something inspirational. I got there, somewhat! πŸ˜†

I did learn a lot though…

In this video I used Google Labs Music FX DJ to generate the background music that added a funny feel.

Making this was a lot of fun!

Next Steps

I’ve got some plans for my next steps, but don’t wanna ruin them by sharing too early. I’m still fleshing them out and don’t want to make promises just yet.

If you’re interested in using AI to help you tell your story, then I hope what I’ve shared brings you a bit closer to making that a reality πŸ€—
